For Zarek, every movement is a battle. His legs no longer respond to his brain’s signals, leaving him unable to walk, unable to stand, unable to escape the pain he lives in every day. His body is failing him, and he has no way to fight it on his own. As if that wasn’t enough, a painful skin condition has stripped away his fur, leaving behind thickened, inflamed skin that burns and aches constantly. Zarek has absent pedal reflexes, meaning his legs and paws do not respond to signals from his brain. He is paralyzed. On top of that, he is battling advanced dermatitis, a painful skin disease that will take weeks, if not months, to heal. Despite everything, Zarek is still here. Still fighting. Still holding on. Doctors have started him on medications and physiotherapy, but his recovery will be long and uncertain. He will need continuous care, support, and compassion every single day.
